In January 7, 2003, Cafe Convívio de Loures was born with a purpose: to help drug addicts, alcoholics and families to find the right way in life.
With the Teen Challenge Portugal collaboration, this work leads and takes care of drug addicts in a recovering program.
Every Tuesdays and Fridays, Luís and Paula Antunes, Isabel Clemente and Pedro Fernandes, leave their personal lives and go over to Quinta das Sapateiras (facilities kindly given over by the City Civil Parish for this program to take place), in order to help the ones in need.
The team gets together around 7 o’clock p.m., ready to face another night working. They have something to eat and then around 7:30 p.m. they have a briefing reunion, where they discuss the cases in hand, pray and read the Bible, to strengthen themselves for the incoming night.
At 8 o’clock p.m. they leave the facilities and spread around the neighbourhood’s streets and coffee shops, searching for someone in need. Doors then open at 8:30 p.m. to receive with a big smile all of those who is willing to join them. Tea and cookies are served, words of love are said to relieve the spirit, listening to everyone’s stories and advising them too.
This is indeed a great ministry, that has given proof that it’s really possible to turn your life around in order to have a brighter future!
